Despite being one of the best films of modern times, not many more movies have prompted more questions than Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Well, now one of the most opinion splitting questions the movie conjures up has been revealed by none other than the great Michael Caine.
The British actor, who plays Miles in the movie, has finally revealed the truth behind the gripping ending.
If you don’t remember the ending to Inception (why the hell not?), watch below to give yourself a reminder:
So, the question at is whether or not Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) was in fact awake or still in a dream.
Despite numerous fan theories and opinions, Caine revealed that Cobb is definitely awake for the ending to the movie. He went on to explain why.
“When I got the script of Inception, I was a bit puzzled by it, and I said to him, ‘I don’t understand where the dream is. I said, ‘When is it the dream and when is it reality?’ He said, ‘Well, when you’re in the scene it’s reality.’ So get that – if I’m in it, it’s reality. If I’m not in it, it’s a dream,” said Caine, speaking at a recent panel for Film4’s Summer Screen series at Somerset House in England.
So Cobb, looking to make it back home to see his children, successfully completes the Inception job that allows his employer, Saito, to make the relevant call to the US authorities, allowing him back into the country and seeing his kids in reality.
Case closed. Goodnight.
